Education

As a Christ-centered, inclusive community of faith, we encourage families to worship together. Our "Church School for all Ages" program is held each Sunday in September through June, immediately preceding worship and includes Christian Education classes for disciples of every age.

At the conclusion of Christian Education, our teachers escort the children to Fellowship Hall where familiies reconnect for Worship.

Adult Christian Education (ACE)

Our congregation believes that learning to be disciples is an essential part of answering our call to be ministers to the world. Courses appealing to individuals wherever they may be on their faith journeys are developed and facilitated by both staff and congregation members.

Most classes are held on Sundays immediately preceding worship and coincident with the Church School programs; some are held on weekdays or evenings.  All are welcome.

High School Christian Education

The "Breakfast Club" is an offering to senior high students who wish to share personal reflection, prayer, and scripture reading over a light breakfast. Generally centered on the weekly scripture and sermon topic, it is an opportunity for our youth to explore their beliefs and ask questions in an open and friendly forum.

Confirmation

Our confirmation classes are generally attended by 8th graders but is open to anyone in at least the 8th grade. Confirmands meet evenings with the pastor and confirmand leaders to begin their transition to full church membership. Shortly before their confirmation, they attend a confirmation retreat where they each write their own personal statement of faith, which are read as part of the Confirmation Sunday.

Middle School Christian Education

Our curriculum for this age of teens and tweens is dynamic and invites the participants to examine real-life issues, questions of faith, community, and personal growth. It is designed to prepare our youth for confirmation and to become full members of the church.

Children’s Church School

Our Christian Church School is a safe, Christ-centered, and inclusive program that recognizes children learn in many different ways: by doing, by association, singing, art, drama and even through science. Our classes are structured to be developmentally age-appropriate:

  • Kindergarten through Grade 5 – Children are divided into age appropriate classes in which the lessons are taught using a multi-sensory curriculum. The lessons are hands-on and connect the Biblical theme or story to experiences in the child’s everyday life.
  • Pre-K – The curriculum is exciting and hands-on for high energy children ages 2-5 years old who are not yet in Kindergarten. For many children, this class is their first experience of Church community and the teachings of our faith. The children learn about the Bible and Jesus and His teachings through singing, crafts, storytelling, snacks and more.

Crib Room

Staffed with adult church members, this room is for infants and toddlers who are not yet ready for the Pre-K programs. Parents can experience and enjoy the worship service with the confidence that their ifants and toddlers are in good hands.

After Church School, our K-8th grade children are invited to attend worship with their parents. Worship bags containing biblical activities, books and crayons are available to help children remain quietly active during worship. Our library is also equipped with speakers so that parents of children who are having difficulty in worship can listen to the service.

During worship, supervised playtime is available for Pre-K children and the Crib Room staff care for infants and toddlers.

Vacation Bible School

UCC Norwell conducts Vacation Bible School each summer for children in Pre-K through Grade 5. The week is an interactive experience where young children, led by young adults, enjoy fun summer activities with a Bible story as the central theme.
