Regular rehearsals are held Thursdays, 7:15-9:15pm, and on Sunday mornings at 9:00am.
Open to high school-aged youth through adults, this 40-member volunteer ensemble provides a wide variety of inspiring choral music for virtually every worship service of the year. More than merely a musical group, the Sanctuary Choir is perhaps the most enduring ministry team in the church, sharing common bonds of friendship, fun and love of singing while uniting in the call to praise and pray to God through music.
An annual choir retreat is usually scheduled each October, and the Christmas Celebration Concerts are performed each December. Additional events include a community song-fest in the spring every other year, Music Appreciation Sunday (where we set aside time to highlight music and thank our musicians), and occasional visits to nursing homes and assisted-living facilities to share our music with those who are unable to come to us. Regular rehearsals - to be announced
This lively bunch of young ringers has only been rehearsing since the fall of 2011. Designed to teach our youngest musicians (Grades K-3) the basics of reading music and playing a starter bell set and also our Malmark chimes, it is hoped that these children will go on to play with the Rockin’ Ringers and eventually graduate to the Celestial Ringers! Our current rehearsal time is on Wednesday afternoons. Like all other choirs, the Cherubs participate in Music Appreciation Sunday and the annual Christmas Celebration Concerts, and occasionally play during worship. Contact Karen Harvey at mailto:[email protected] if your child is interested in joining or if you have questions.
Regular rehearsals - to be announced
Started in September 2011, this is UCC’s first youth handbell choir! Open to young people in Grades 4/5-8 (approximately) the Rockin’ Ringers currently employ two octaves of Schulmerich handbells and this group loves to play in worship as often as possible! Rehearsals include rhythm and music-reading exercises as well as practicing actual repertoire. Meeting times for the fall of 2012 will be determined in the near future. Contact Karen Harvey at mailto:[email protected] if you are interested in joining or have questions.
Regular rehearsals are held Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00pm, with an occasional Tuesday rehearsal.
Recently celebrating ten years of service to the church, our adult handbell choir utilizes four octaves of Schulmeric Handbells, supplemented at times by a three-octave set of Malmark Chimes. Like all other choirs at UCC Norwell, this is a volunteer, non-auditioned group of approximately eleven people of various skill levels. In addition to the Christmas Celebration Concerts each year, the Celestial Ringers play approximately once every six weeks during worship, and are featured in our Easter services and on Music Appreciation Sunday. Because of the unique charm and mystique of these instruments, we are often invited to perform for local charities and gatherings, especially in December! Most of our ringers have attended several AGEHR conferences. Contact Karen Harvey at mailto:[email protected] if you are interested in joining or have questions.
Memory Lane Singers
Created and organized by church/choir member Kay Spurr, the volunteer members of the Memory Lane Singers visit Norwell Knoll and the Scituate Life Care Center each month (on various Monday afternoons at 2:00pm), delighting residents with their hymns, seasonal favorites and “oldies but goodies!” There are no formal rehearsals, and singers are encouraged to participate whenever their schedules allow. This is a wonderful opportunity for those not already in a choir to just get out and sing! Contact the church office at [email protected] if you are interested in joining or have questions.
Summer Pickup Choir
During the summer, our Sanctuary Choir takes a break, and various instrumentalists, soloists and small groups take their place. In addition, we have “Pick-Up Choir” Sundays when anyone is welcome to come to rehearsal (at 8:00am) and then sing for our 9:00am service. Sometimes these are the only singing opportunities for people who are unable to attend our evening schedule of rehearsals during the year. No prior choir experience is necessary; the music is accessible and the choir is “user-friendly!” Contact Karen Harvey at mailto:[email protected] if you are interested in joining or have questions.
