Our Community
One of the most active areas of mission and outreach at UCC Norwell is serving local organizations that are helping those in need. Here are just a few examples of how our members and funds are helping:
-
South Shore Habitat for Humanity (SSHH) – UCC Norwell founded the SSHH, part of the ecumenical Christian-based volunteer-driven organization that builds homes in partnership with families in need. SSHH sells homes at cost with interest-free mortgages in 32 towns and cities south and southwest of Boston.
- Friendship Home – The mission of Friendship Home, Inc. is to provide quality respite care services in a caring environment to individuals with developmental disabilities in order to improve their lives and the lives of their families. UCC Norwell provides financial support, serves on the Friendship Home board, and has leased a portion of the church property on which a respite home can be built.
- Friendship Clubs – An offspring of the Friendship Home, numerous volunteers assist these clubs in Norwell, Quincy, and Duxbury for people with developmental disabilities, ages 22 and older. By sharing crafts and talents, everyone looks forward to “Club Night” with fun, friendship and respect for all.
- Norwell Food Pantry – Founded in 1991, the Norwell Food Pantry provides food, clothing and toys to community individuals and families in need. UCC Norwell collects non-perishable donations and regular volunteers to help deliver food to those unable to get to the Pantry. Stop by anytime to provide a donation.
- Quincy Crisis Center – This Christian faith-based outreach agency provides food, meals, a 24-hour crisis hotline and visitation to those who have fallen through the cracks of traditional approaches of meeting human needs. UCC Norwell provides financial support and a team of volunteers who cook and deliver meals to hungry people and people in need.
- Father Bills & MainSpring - The mission of Father Bills & MainSpring is to help people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, to achieve self-sufficiency and to obtain a home by giving temporary shelter and food, finding safe and affordable housing, and providing permanent housing with supportive services.
- Robin's Nest – This safe and supportive gathering place in Marshfield, MA provides wellness therapy, counseling, and bereavement services to people affected by HIV and AIDS and their families. UCC Norwell provides financial support, volunteers and regular employees to the organization.
- City Mission Society of Boston – This urban social justice agency unites communities and transforms individuals through service, education and advocacy, crossing religious, racial and class lines. UCC Norwell collects toys and clothing at Christmastime so the organization can distributes them to children who may otherwise not receive a gift in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Participation in these and other programs is open to everyone and we invite you to join us in our work.
