Our World
UCC Norwell is proud of the financial and member volunteer work provided to several nationwide and worldwide mission and outreach programs, including:
- ASAPROSAR – One of our most successful missions has been financial, spiritual, and physical support for Dr. Vicky Guzman's mission in El Salvador. Since 1972, ASAPROSAR has provided integrated health care to impoverished families with a focus on women and children as they combat the obstacles of gender discrimination and exploitation, reaching nearly one million people with preventative healthcare each year.
Each year, UCC Norwell sends two volunteer groups, bringing member-donated eye glasses, educational toys, used clothing, shoes and school supplies; the teams work in eye clinics (January trip) and general work camps (August trip). If you'd like to go to El Salvador to help on a construction project, a health clinic, or similar initiative, contact us or ask any member who's been there; it's one of the most profound, fulfilling vacations you'll ever take.
- Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) – UCC congregations everywhere are connected to one another, across boundaries and neighborhood, class, race, and national borders. OCWM refers to the financial support given by UCC members and congregations that make our broader mission possible. In addition to an annual contribution, UCC Norwell participates special offerings as well as "Blanket Sunday," where money is collected for blankets which are later distributed by Church World Services to those in need.
- Lumunos – Formerly called Faith@Work, UCC Norwell pastors and church members have collaborated in programs with this leading Virginia-based educational group that empowers people to explore, discern and act on their many gifts and “call” in the complexity of their daily lives for the good of God’s world.
- Heifer Project International – Since 1944, Heifer has provided food and income-producing animals and training to millions of resource-poor families in 115 countries, all in an effort to end hunger and poverty. This unique approach lets communities make their own decisions about improving their lives, overcoming obstacles, strengthening their communities, and fostering democracy. In addition to financial support, UCC Sunday School and Youth Groups participate in several of Heifer’s educational programs.
- Neighbors in Need (NIN) – This special mission offering of the United Church of Christ supports ministries that address poverty, economic development, human rights, peacemaking, violence, racial and economic justice, environmental concerns, and public policy advocacy.
-
One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) This special mission offering of the United Church of Christ supports programs internationally for building sustainable communities, welcoming refugees and reconstructing lives following disasters.
