Faith that Shows

You shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.     Genesis 17:11

What a strange and painful ritual to observe as a sign of a promise from God! Abraham and all the men in his family, and all the men in his company, had to be circumcised as a sign that they were in a relationship with the Lord. After circumcision, there was no mistaking—one was a Jew, a follower of Yahweh, a member of God’s chosen people. Once circumcised, it was a form of identification that could not be undone. One was marked for life.

The truth of circumcision is that somehow our faith and our relationship with God should show. As people of faith, our faith should be evidenced in our lives, in our relationships, in our business dealings, and perhaps even in our bodies somehow. Jesus said to his followers, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Simply put, our faith should show.

How can people recognize your faith in your daily living?

Lord, when people look at me, they should be able to tell that I follow you, that I love you, and that my life is offered to you. Help me to circumcise the whole of my life so that when people see me, they somehow catch a glimpse of you. In your name, I pray. AMEN.
