Work in Progress

I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working on his wheel. The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him.     Jeremiah 18:3-4

A potter will moisten, spin, push, pull, stretch, and compress clay until it begins to take the shape the potter has in mind. Even if the clay is spoiled, the potter will work it and rework it until it is shaped into a vessel that is pleasing to its maker.

Before you were even born, God had an image of what you could become. In fact, right now God sees you—even if you don’t see yourself—as strong, capable, and beautiful. But you are not there yet. God is still working on you—applying pressure, stretching you, softening you, shaping you until you conform to the image God has in mind for you. You are a work in progress.

Are you feeling pushed and pulled and pressured right now?

Lord, the pressure of my life can get depressing at times. I begin to wonder if I will ever get to a place in life where I won’t constantly be weighed down by challenges and frustration. Help me to see the difficult situations I face as opportunities for you to further craft me into the person you want me to become. In your name, I pray. AMEN.
