A church family for your family.

Church School
at UCC Norwell

We are all about God’s love that is beyond measure, a love that extends to all people, in all places, through all things. We want children to come to understand that they are beloved children of God, created in God’s image, and as such, have a responsibility to spread God’s love, mercy, peace, and justice in the world through service, song, prayer and participation in the community.

‍Children are supported and welcomed as they are with their individual gifts and challenges. In Church School the work we do is multi-sensory, and our curriculum, Shine: Living in God’s Light, is further tailored to meet the needs of each specific child. Song, play, prayer, stories, art, Legos, gardening, and cooking are some of the ways we spend our time together.

Our Church School and children’s programming runs concurrently with our 10:00am worship. During our program year (September through June), we provide Sunday morning care and Church School for children age infants through grade 5.

  • Children aged 4 and up are welcomed in Church School by paid teachers as well as shepherds, vetted volunteers from our church family.

  • 1st Sunday: Children’s Chapel. All children meet in Room 3 then head up to join their grownups for communion. During this time, we experience a simple order of worship; we share prayer and song, holy play, and service work. 4th and 5th grades have a chance to help lead.

  • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays: Children begin in worship with their families then are dismissed to Church school downstairs for the remainder of the service time.

  • Infants through age 3 are cared for in our Crib Room by dedicated staff and shepherds.

Explorers

Last Sunday of the month| 11:30am-1:00pm

All 4th and 5th graders are invited to join this monthly, after worship group to deepen their relationship with their faith and with one another. This year we are exploring our faith through the work of Daneen Akers’ Holy Troublemakers and Unconventional Saints, learning about people who caused good trouble guided and spurred on by their faith. This work is done through story, prayer, play, service and even the occasional off-site adventures. The book is worthy of a spot on your bookshelves.

Children’s Chapel

On the first Sunday of each month, our children will gather for Children's Chapel and join their families for communion in the Sanctuary. Led by our our Children’s and Family Minister, Jenny Healy and our church school teachers, the children sing praise songs, listen to Bible stories, and engage in sacred play. This special child-centered worship service allows our children to be active participants in the joy of praise.

Vacation Bible Camp 2027

A highlight of our Children's Ministry at UCC Norwell is our annual Vacation Bible Camp (VBC) program. Each summer, our youth and adult volunteers garner their energy, joy, and faith to offer a week-long adventure in faith exploration for children ages kindergarten through grade 5. We welcome all to join us at VBC — children who are regular participants in our church family as well as children from the wider community. We had a blast at our 2026 Vacation Bible Camp, see the pictures below that prove it!
