Lifting the shame and stigma that too often surrounds mental health challenges.

As a designated WISE (Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, and Engaged) Congregation for Mental Health, we are committed to fostering a community of compassion and understanding. Our Mental Health Ministries were born out of a shared calling to provide hope, care, and encouragement for individuals and families living with mental health conditions, chronic brain disorders, addictions, and trauma. Read our WISE for Mental Health Church Covenant.

Through this ministry, we: 

  • Create safe and sacred spaces for members to share their journeys and experiences during worship and community gatherings. 

  • Partner with local mental health organizations to offer educational resources, referrals, and ongoing support. 

  • Actively advocate for the reduction of stigma and the promotion of mental health awareness within our congregation and the broader community. 

  • Spiritual Support Groups 

    In partnership with Croi Health (formerly Norwell VNA and Hospice), our WISE for Mental Health Ministry Team offers spiritual support groups for bereavement and caregivers. These confidential groups are facilitated by a trained professional and provide a welcoming environment to:  

    • Share personal experiences and feelings 

    • Explore coping strategies

    • Learn from others who understand the journey 

    Throughout the year, we also offer support groups around parenting and aging, facilitated by an expert clinician. Request to join our Mental Health Ministry Team group on Church Center to learn more, or to join our ministry team us as we walk together toward healing, wholeness, and community. 

  • We also recently joined BU School of Theology’s Trauma-Responsive Congregations as part of a new cohort of Massachusetts congregations.  All congregations respond to trauma. Responding well can lead to thriving—in the life of our congregations, our neighborhoods, and our cities. We seek to foster mutual learning among a network of educators and congregational leaders to generate theologically robust, interdisciplinary, and innovative responses to collective trauma that are deeply integrated into the mission of thriving urban congregations.
