Ministries of Prayer + Presence

Open and responsive to the work of the Holy Spirit, we are a church committed to prayer. These ministries actively encourage and promote prayer within the life of our church and offer the healing power of prayer to members and friends of our community.

Do you believe in the power of prayer, and are you energized as you care for others? Ministry teams are always ready to welcome new members to use their gifts and serve among us.   • The Ministry of Caring (MOC) supports church family and friends by sending get-well, sympathy, and thinking of you cards to those who are , dealing with loss or family illness, over 90 years old, or whose lives are centered at home. Volunteers participate in Meal Trains for UCCN individuals or families dealing with illness or recuperating from surgery, and when possible, help arrange transportation to medical appointments locally or in Boston. Each week, an MOC volunteer delivers Sunday flower arrangements to individuals on the Prayer Request list when flower donors request that. Twice yearly, MOC coordinates volunteers to send “thinking of you” packages to UCCN young adults attending college or working away from home for the first time.

  • The Ministry of Healing and Wholeness, otherwise referred to as “the Prayer Chair,” is offered most Sunday mornings at the back right corner of the sanctuary, near the narthex.

    A member of the MHW Team will be there to pray for you, laying hands on your shoulders if that is comfortable for you.  You may choose to share a personal prayer request, which will be held in confidence, or not, as you wish. God knows the prayers of your heart.

  • Members are invited by the Lead Pastor to assist in meeting the needs of our church family with pastoral visits and calls, generally after an initial contact by a Pastor.

  • The Prayerful Stitches Ministry Team knits/crochets prayer shawls, scarves, and baby blankets while praying for comfort, love, grace, and healing for the recipient in need of prayer on behalf of the congregation.

  • A ministry devoted to prayer. A Secret Prayer Partner is someone who is committed to intentionally pray for another person every day for a year. The Partners are drawn by lot and kept a secret for a year, so every Partner will not know who is praying for them.  Every Spring the Prayer Partners gather for the Big Reveal Luncheon where the participants discover the identity of their Secret Prayer Partner.

  • WISE’s (Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, + Engaged) purpose is to provide a sustained ministry of hope, compassion and caring so that no member of our congregation and surrounding communities, especially those living with mental health challenges including other chronic brain disorders, addictions and trauma, need be alone. Our ministry is aligned with the national United Church of Christ’s mission to be “United in Spirit and inspired by God’s grace; we welcome all, love all, and seek justice for all”, which is consistent with the WISE Congregation for Mental Health Resolution, approved at the UCC General Synod in 2015.
