Love Feast afterthoughts

Children’s + Family Minister jenny healy reflects on our Children’s Sunday service that took place on June 14, 2026. Leading Children’s Sunday worship is open to anyone who participated in Church School during the programming year. It celebrates all that was learned, questioned, and uncovered during our year-long discovery into each person’s place in the story of God’s love for us and our personal relationship with Jesus. Thank you to jenny and the entire Church School staff on guiding our youngest on their spiritual path!

Sunday, my heart was just exploding

with love,

with pride in our kids,

with relief (gotta be honest here).

It was truly amazing to see our kids scaling the scaffolding of what we are building for them.

Singing with their whole bodies.

Speaking their well-rehearsed words,

in small voices,

in slow but steady voices,

in easy voices,

in tense but tenacious voices.

Speaking words that they’d been practicing for a few weeks,

words handed the night before (my error),

or moments before (not sure where that friend is today, but he’s not here).

There was so much love at that feast.

But truly the feast began Friday night with a line of kids edging the counter pulling and stretching two giant batches of dough, laughing and giggling, ooh-ing and ah-ing, squeezing over to make space for one more and one more. Breaking off a piece of dough to share.

And oh, that dough after a good long rest while we rehearsed was silken!

So Sunday was the cherry on top, the icing on the cake

to see all those young people, those tiny humans-

who are fully and wholly human regardless of size-

to see them raising their voices,

clapping and tapping,

making rivers, waves and fountains

of peace, love and joy-

it was a feast for the heart and soul!
