Church Council: Meeting in a Minute | May 27, 2025

Church Council met on May 27, 2025. Here's a summary of the key points discussed:

Council business + financial health: The general activities show no red flags, and pledges are ahead of schedule at 44%. We're currently sitting on a small surplus which includes the full tithe from New Nursery School (NNS).

The New Nursery School (NNS): NNS continues to operate at a surplus. We're looking into whether the NNS surplus can be used for scholarships, particularly in partnership with Rehoboth House. While there are some logistical challenges the possibility exists, but would require a dedicated team to facilitate.

Music Minister update: After a diligent search process that involved 25 candidates, 4 auditions, and two finalists, we're thrilled to announce that Lindsay Albert has accepted the position of full-time Music Minister! Lindsay brings a strong faith background and a passion for music to our church. The congregation will be officially notified on May 29th. Karen's last Sunday will be June 29th, and Lindsay is set to begin on July 21st.

Peter Strobel’s Installation service: Pastor Peter’s Installation service will be held on Sunday, June 22nd, at 3:00pm. There will be a "Meet and Greet" with other area clergy and members of the Pilgrim Association beforehand, followed by the service. Cindy Fitzsimmons is helping with the reception details.

Church Center presentation: Emily Mathews, Communications Coordinator,  gave an update on our move to Church Center, our new communications tool. We're currently in the migration, setup, and training phases. Church Center is slated to launch soon for the congregation! To ensure a smooth rollout, the Council will be forming a task force of 6-8 members to help with implementation, gather feedback, and advocate for the congregation.

Strategic plan updates: Council continues to work on, and move forward, the Strategic Plan prioritization process. The moderators will streamline the summary document, and then Council members will be asked to choose their top 3-5 priorities before the next meeting.

Children’s Sunday: Children's Sunday is June 8, 2025! Colleen and Brianna are collecting videos of people answering three special questions to celebrate our Children's Minister, Jenny Healy. If you're interested in contributing, reach out to Brianna!

Next Council meeting: Tuesday, June 24, 7:00 PM, UCC Norwell Library.

Please note, these are not official meeting minutes. These are highlights intended to inform and emphasize the collaborative spirit driving our church community forward in an inclusive manner.
